Numbers

The COE at UL Lafayette has been preparing outstanding educators since 1906. In fact, of the 60,000+ graduates of the University, over 20,000 were graduates of the COE.

Quality

Graduates of the COE have provided exceptional service in their fields of endeavor to the area, state, and the nation. Currently, in the state of Louisiana, COE graduates serve as the Lt. Governor, Commissioner of Higher Education, and Superintendent of Education. Additionally, many have served and continue to serve as parish superintendents, leaders in higher education, parish supervisors, school administrators, teachers, guidance counselors, etc. Others such as Gerald Hebert, Andrew Toney, Diane Lowings, Ed Roy, and Jake Delhomme have excelled in areas outside of education.

COE Leadership in Alumni Affairs

The UL Lafayette Alumni Association has over 30 chapters / clubs, yet there is no chapter for the COE. Despite the lack of a chapter base, many of our COE graduates have served as President of the Alumni Association. Ernie Alexander (91-92), Martha Hoover Crombie (90-91), Beverly Wilson (83-84), David Fisher, Sr. (82-83), Rene Calais (76-77), John Allen Prejean (75-76), Louis Gaudet (74-75), and other COE graduates before them provided excellent leadership to the association.

Missed Opportunities

The COE has been hampered by not having an alumni chapter in many ways. Alumni have been without a home when returning to Homecoming and other University events. There has been no forum to implement a comprehensive recognition program for graduates. Formal communications regarding the activities and programs of the COE and the alumni have been inconsistent and often nonexistent. Scholarship needs for deserving students were usually not addressed in an organized manner by our graduates. HELP IS ON THE WAY! The COE Alumni Chapter will provide a vehicle whereby the above situations will be addressed. Further, the COE administration is anxious to provide timely reports on the happenings of the college, as well as working closely with the COE Alumni Chapter to improve the COE.
