  • A minor (second teaching field) is not required for students seeking certification in Health and Physical Education but is highly recommended.   • A non-teaching concentration is available in the following areas: 
  •   Athletic Training Exercise Science
      Health Promotion and Wellness Recreation
      Sports Administration Sports Medicine
    See the Health and Physical Education Department for requirements and a course scheduling sequence. REMINDER: Students electing any one of the four areas listed above will not be eligible for state teacher certification, unless they complete certification requirements as well.

FOOTNOTES
  1. Students certifying to teach mathematics must complete MATH 109 and 110 with grades of "C" or better; students certifying in Business must complete Math 105 and 201 with grades of "C" or better. Others take Math 105 and a three hour elective selected from Math 201, 206, 210, or STAT 214. (MATH 201 requires a "C" or better in MATH 105). Students certifying in science must schedule MATH 210 as their elective math.
  2. The social studies electives must be selected in two of the following disciplines: Anthropology, Economics, Geography, Political Science, Psychology, Sociology.
  3. Select from: PHED 305 or 415.
  4. Minor area; see minor area for secondary education major for minor options and course requirements. Consult with your Academic Advisor for special course offerings in Athletic Coaching.
  5. Any HLTH course other than a HLTH methods course.
